Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship of anti-laminin-1 (anti-LN1) with abortion and infertility, and to determine the effect of glucocorticoid on fertility in anti-LN1 antibody positive mice. Methods We analyzed abortion rate between BALB/c mice immunized by LN-1 antigen (the model group) and complete Freund’s adjuvant-injected controls. We divided the immune mice into two groups. Dexamethasone (1.5 mg) was injected in one group every other day for 5 days (the drug group), while the same amount of saline solution was injected in the other group. We measured the level of anti-LN1 antibody in the serum. Results We found that the pregnancy rate of the model group was 8.9%, while the control group one was 90%. Meanwhile, the abortion rate of the model group was 24.4%, while no abortion was observed in the control group one. In addition, we found that the drug group had a pregnancy rate of 20%, while the control group two had 8.9%. Moreover, the abortion rates were 10% in the drug group and 33.3% in the control group two. The anti-LN1 antibody levels in the serum of the model group, the control group one and the drug group was (2.557±1.395), (0.106±0.005), (2.850±1.116), respectively, and the difference was not significant. Conclusion Anti-LN1 antibody is related to reproductive barrier. Glucocorticoid has positive effect on immunogenicity of the reproductive barriers in female mice. These results might provide a novel basis for the etiology of abortion.
