Abstract:Objective To analyze the incidence and risk factors of low birth weight, and to provide evidence for appropriate interventions.Methods A total of 13706 neonates were included in the study. All live births delivered at equal or more than 28 weeks of gestation from January 2012 to December 2017 in Capital Medical University affiliated Beijing Shijitan Hospital by China's National Maternal Near Miss Surveillance System. Maternal questionnaires were used to collect basic information about pregnancy complications, delivery and newborn conditions.Results Among the 13706 live births, the incidence of low birth weight was 5.3%. Univariate analysis showed that maternal age, education level, number of prenatal examinations, preterm delivery, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes, anaemia during pregnancy, and multiple pregnancy were all related to low birth weight (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that without prenatal visit or 1~4 prenatal visits, multiple pregnancy, preterm birth, hypertensive disorder of pregnancy and anaemia during pregnancy were risk factors for low birth weight.Conclusion The incidence of low birth weight in the hospital was lower than the national average. Preterm birth, hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, anaemia during pregnancy, multiple pregnancy, and poor prenatal care were risk factors for low birth weight. Strengthening health education and management of perinatal care, and actively preventing pregnancy complications can effectively reduce the incidence of low birth weight.
