Abstract:Objective To understand the level of hope in patients with pelvic inflammatory disease and to explore its influencing factors.Methods We conducted a survey by using self-designed questionnaire, Herth Hope Scale, and social support rating scale among 280 patients with pelvic inflammatory disease. The level of hope of the patients and its influencing factors were analyzed.Results The average age of the patients was 34.3 ± 6.2 years, 65.7% of those had a junior high school / high school / secondary education, 60.7% were married, and 73.5% had a family income > 3,000 yuan. The average total score of hope was 34.1 ± 4.0 points, and 92.1% of the patients had a moderate to high level of hope; the score of hope differed significantly by age, educational level, marital status, family monthly income, and the duration of disease(P<0.05); The average social support score was 37.9 ± 2.6 points. The total score of hope and the score for each dimension were positively correlated with the total and dimensional score of the social support scale(P<0.05); Multivariable analyses indicated that subjective support, objective support, support utilization, and family monthly income were factors influencing the level of hope of inpatients with pelvic inflammatory disease.Conclusion The level of hope for patients with pelvic inflammatory disease is at moderate to high level. Social support and family income are positively correlated with the level of hope. Timely psychological counseling is suggested for patients with pelvic inflammatory disease.
