Abstract:Objective To examine the expression of ANXA2 and vimentin in ectopic and eutopic endometrial tissues in patients with adenomyosis in order to explore their role in the pathogenesis of adenomyosis. Methods The expression of ANXA2 and vimentin in ectopic and eutopic endometrial tissues of 35 patients with adenomyosis and in normal endometrial tissues of 20 patients with hysteromyoma was assayed by the use of immunohistochemistry. Results The positive rates of ANXA2 and vimentin in normal, eutopic, and ectopic endometrium showed a gradual increase. Differences were observed in the expression of ANXA2 and vimentin between the proliferative phase and the secretory phase. Further analysis showed that the expression of ANXA2 and vimentin was positively correlated. Conclusion Overexpression of ANXA2 and vimentin may be associated with the development of adenomyosis. The expression of ANXA2 and vimentin was correlated with stage of menstrual cycle, with higher expression in proliferative phase than in secretory phase. The expression of ANXA2 and vimentin was positively correlated in adenomyosis, suggesting that they may promote the development of adenomyosis.
