Abstract:Objective To explore factors associated with transient hypothyroxinemia of prematurity (THP) in preterm children. Methods Clinical data of 160 preterm children and their mothers were retrospective analyzed, and were divided into the THP group (n=68) and the non-THP group (n=92). Factors associated with THP were analyzed. Results There were significant differences in gestational age [(33.4±3.1)weeks vs (36.1±3.2) weeks], birth weight [(2 443.6±1131.7)g vs (2693.7±1131.4)g], postnatal asphyxia (58.8% vs 33.7%), multiple births (16.2% vs 4.3%), maternal gestational hypertension (26.5% vs 12.0%), RDS (32.4% vs 13.0%), infection during pregnancy (26.5% vs 6.5%), NEC (7.4% vs 0), and neonatal cold injure syndrome (14.7% vs 2.2%) between the two groups (all Ps<0.05 or P<0.01), but no significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of gender, maternal hypoglycemia, maternal perinatal infections, cesarean section, and advance maternal age. Multiple births (OR=10.095), maternal gestational hypertension (OR=13.599), RDS (OR=5.366), infection during pregnancy (OR=7.471), NEC (OR=8.390), and neonatal cold injure syndrome (OR=11.740) were independent risk factors for THP. Conclusion Several risk factors for THP were identified. Pediatrician may take these factors into consideration in their clinical practice.
