Abstract:Objective To characterize the expression of stromal cell derived factor-l alpha (SDF-1α) and hypoxia inducible factor1-α (HIF-1α) in the tissues of epithelial ovarian carcinoma patients. Methods Expression of SDF-1α and HIF-α was detected by immunohistochemical SP method in 97 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer patients and 9 normal ovarian tissues. Results SDF-1α and HIF-1α were overexpressed in patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma, with a positive rate of 70.1% and 67.1%, respectively. The expression levels were higher in cancerous tissue than in normal ovarian tissue (all P<0.05). There was a positive correlation between the expression of SDF-1α and HIF-1α in patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma (r=0.475, P<0.05). Conclusion SDF-1α and HIF-1α over-expressed in epithelial ovarian carcinoma tissue, and therefore might play an important role in the development of epithelial ovarian carcinoma. This finding suggests that HIF-1α-SDF-1α signal pathway may exist in the development of epithelial ovarian carcinoma.
