The fertility desire and its difference of college students between the only-child and non-only child in Beijing

Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between fertility desire of the college students between the only child and non-only child in Beijing after the implementation of universal two-child policy.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among college students in Beijing. The fertility desire between the only child and non-only child was compared, factors related the fertility desire were explored.Results It showed that the ideal number of children among the non-only child was two or more. People care more about the gender of their offspring in only-child family. Binary logistic regression model showed that the only child was a risk factor for gender preference (OR=1.92, 95% CI:1.25~2.97). People with graduate or above education (OR=1.94, 95% CI:1.05~3.58) and low family economic status (OR=1.67, 95% CI:1.10~2.54) showed son preference.Conclusion There was significant difference on fertility desire of college students between the only-child and non-only child, including ideal number of children and gender preference.
