Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of gestational hypertension on premature delivery and low birth weight in pregnant women. Methods Data for analysis was from Maternal and Neonatal Health Monitoring Project by Chinese National Center for Maternal and Children′s Health. A total of 32,191 pregnant women with single live birth were included in the analysis after excluding women younger than 18 years old, with more than 42 weeks of gestation and with missing important indicators. Multivariate logistic regression, generalized linear regression and multilevel model were used to analyze the relationship between gestational hypertension with preterm birth and low birth weight. Results Gestational hypertension can significantly increase the risk of preterm birth (OR=1.63, 95% CI: 1.26-2.10) and low birth weight (OR=2.91, 95% CI: 2.29-3.71). The risk of preterm birth and low birth weight was significantly increased in women with gestational hypertension in the third trimester. The more times pregnancy test detects high blood pressure, the higher risk of premature birth and low birth weight. Conclusion Gestational hypertension will increase the risk of preterm birth and low birth weight, therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the management and control of blood pressure during pregnancy and reduce the occurrence of gestational hypertension.
