Abstract:Objective To describe the hair concentrations of phthalates (PAEs) and investigate their associations with the dietary habit among pregnant women in Haidian District, Beijing. Methods Our study was based on a pregnant cohort established by the Institute of Reproductive and Child Health, Peking University and Beijing Haidian Maternal and Child Health Hospital. A total of 152 pregnant women with available hair samples in the cohort were randomly selected in our study from October 2017 to October 2018. The concentrations of 9 PAEs were analysed using gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. The questionnaires were used to assess the information of social characteristics and dietary habit of pregnant women. Results All PAEs were detected in hair samples with detection range of 55.9%-98.0%. Among all the concerned PAEs, DEHP has its highest detection rate and concentration in hair sample with a median (interquartile range) of 1 837.5 (641.7, 4 473.3) ρg/mg. Egg and milk intake were significantly associated with lower hair concentration of DNP with adjusted odds ratio of 0.29 (95% CI:0.12-0.66).Conclusion The exposure level of PAEs was relatively low among pregnant women in Haidian District, Beijing. Diet frequencies of some food were associated with hair PAEs concentrations. Egg and milk intake might be a protective factor of lower PAEs concentration.
