Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between the adiponectin level in fetal umbilical cord blood and birth weight.Methods 30 cases of healthy newborns delivered in our hospital from October 2015 to December 2015 were selected and were divided into <3 000 g group, 3 000-3 999 g group and ≥4 000 g group according to birth weight. The relationship between mothers’ age, height, gravidity, parity, pregnancy BMI, neonatal birth weight, infant sex, and concentrations of adiponectin in maternal blood and umbilical cord blood was analyzed.Results The levels of adiponectin in umbilical cord blood of both boys and girls were significantly higher than those in maternal serum, and there was a statistically significant difference between male and female infants. There was no significant difference in serum adiponectin concentration between males and females. Umbilical serum adiponectin concentrations in girls were significantly higher than those in boys. Maternal serum adiponectin concentration was not related to the mothers’ age, height, second birth and birth times. Maternal serum adiponectin and BM1 before pregnancy was related to neonatal sex. There was no significant difference in maternal serum adiponectin among the three birth weight groups. Umbilical adiponectin levels in 3 000-3 999 g group and ≥4 000 g group were significantly higher than that of <3 000 g group. Birth weight and umbilical adiponectin concentrations were correlated (r=0.939, P<0.01).Conclusion Umbilical adiponectin levels can be used as one of the indicators of fetal growth and development and nutritional status.
