Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of fractalkine and its receptor CX3CR1 in cervical cancer and to evaluate its clinical significance in the occurrence and development of cervical carcinoma. Methods The expression of fractalkine and its receptor CX3CR1 was determined by ELISA in 40 cervical cancer patients, 30 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) patients, and 20 healthy women. The relationship of serum fractalkine and its receptor CX3CR1 levels and the clinicopathologic characteristics was analyzed.Results Serum fractalkine and CX3CR1 levels in the cervical cancer group were significantly lower than those in the healthy group and the CIN group (Ps<0.01). In the CIN group, serum level of fractalkine in patients of LSIL (4 228.1±214.4pg/ml) was higher than that of HSIL patients (3 438.1±411.0pg/ml) (P<0.01); serum level of CX3CR1 in patients of LSIL (31.4±4.4pg/ml) was higher than that of HSIL patients (27.0±2.0pg/ml) (P<0.05). Serum levels of fractalkine and CX3CR1 in the cervical cancer group with lymph node metastasis were significantly lower than those in the cervical cancer group without lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). The levels of fractalkine and CX3CR1 were closely related with tumor size, clinical stage, and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). Fractalkine was linearly correlated with CX3CR1 (rs=0.371, P=0.018).Conclusion The low expression of fractalkine and its receptor CX3CR1 may be correlated with invasion and lymph node metastasis of cervical cancer. Fractalkine and its receptor CX3CR1 may play an important role in the progress of cervical carcinoma.
