Longitudinal study of growth rate in 3 225 children aged 0-36 months in Tongzhou District

Abstract:Objective This study provides health care workers references of implementing targeted children′s health care services in the future by studying the growth rate of children in the survey area.Methods 3 225 children born in Tongzhou District of Beijing from October 1, 2012 to December 31, 2014 were enrolled. Physical development level and growth rate in 0-36 months were calculated and compared with WHO standards.Results Almost all the length/height-for-age, weight-for-age and body mass index-for-age of children in this research were higher than the WHO standards, respectively. The change of children′s growth rate in this research was characterized by a rapid decline within one year old and then being flat, which was consistent with the trend of the WHO standards. The length/height growth rate were higher than the WHO standards during the age of 3~5 months, 9~11 months, 18~23 months and 30~36 months, and the growth rate of weight were higher than the WHO standards during 3~11 month.Conclusion The length /height growth of children in Tongzhou District is well, but the growth of weight needs to be controlled.
