Abstract：Objective To describe the use of basic public health services and health literacy among mothers of children aged 0-6 in the community, and to provide reference for improving the utilization of basic public health services. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 429 mothers in a community of Beijing by a typical sampling method. The questionnaire was designed by the Department of Social Medicine and Health Education of Peking University. The health literacy and utilization of basic public health services of mothers of children aged 0-6 years were investigated. Information included the socio-demographic characteristics, the health knowledge and the utilization of basic public health services among children's mothers. T-test, Chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the influence of age, education level, income level and health literacy level of women on their utilization of basic public health services. Results The average score of health literacy of mothers aged 0-6 was (6.4±1.3). The proportion of mothers who choose the first visit in community health service centers (17.0%) and establish health records (34.3%) was significantly higher among those with low-level health literacy than those with high-level health literacy, while the proportion of mothers who did prenatal examination (92.9%) and took folic acid supplement (52.0%) was significantly higher among those with high-level health literacy than low-level health literacy. The proportion of mothers who chose breast-feeding and breast-feeding as the main feeding methods (58.2%) and complied with medical orders (93.9%) was significantly higher among those with high-level health literacy than those with low-level health literacy. Conclusion The health literacy level of mothers of children aged 0-6 is an important factor affecting their utilization of basic public health services.
