Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of different feeding types on growth and nutrition of infants aged 42 days. Methods 2376 healthy infants who seek for physical examination on 42 days after birth in 2017 were selected. Three groups were divided as:breastfeeding group, mixed feeding group and artificial feeding group according to feeding types within 42 days after birth. The height, weight and nutrition status were compared among three groups. Results Breastfeeding rate of 42-day infants was 66.5%. The increase of body weight was 1.75 kg, 1.61 kg and 1.69 kg in breastfeeding group, mixed feeding group and artificial feeding group respectively. The increase of height was 6.46 cm、6.24 cm and 6.47 cm in breastfeeding group, mixed feeding group and artificial feeding group respectively. The increase of height growth and weight growth of 42-day infants in mixed feeding group were significantly lower than that of breastfeeding group (P<0.05), while there were no significant difference between artificial feeding and other groups in these indexes (P>0.05). The proportion of infants who tended to be thin in mixed feeding group was the highest (14.9%), and the lowest was in breastfeeding group (10.4%). The proportion of infants who tended to be fat in breastfeeding group was the highest (14.8%), and the lowest was in artificial feeding group (7.3%).Conclusion Breastfeeding can promote the growth of height and weight among 42-day infants, but there were no significant protective effect in reducing the risk of overweight and obesity.
