Pregnancy and neonatal outcomes after intracytoplasmic sperm injection treatment in patients with teratozoospermia

Abstract：Objective To investigate the pregnancy outcomes and neonatal outcomes after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatment in patients with teratozoospermic.Methods We retrospectively analyzed data of couples who visited our hospital because of female tubal factor or male teratozoospermic (874 cycles) between October 2011 and July 2013. Patients were divided into two groups: teratozoospermic group (n=395) and normal semen group (n=479) according to the sperm morphology classification standards of WHO Laboratory Manual for the Examination and Processing of Human Semen (Fifth edition). Pregnancy outcomes and neonatal outcomes were compared between the two groups.Results The fertilization rate, normal fertilization rate, cleavage rate, good quality embryos rate, implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, miscarriage rate, and delivery rate were comparable between the two groups, but the plurality was significantly different. The proportion of singletons, twins, and triplets was 68.1%, 30.3%, and 1.6%, respectively, in the teratozoospermic group, and the corresponding figure was 58.6%, 41.0%, and 0.4%, respectively, in the normal semen group. The neonatal outcomes, including gestational age, birthweight, sex, birth defect, preterm birth, low birthweight, very low birthweight, macrosomia were all comparable between the two groups.Conclusion ICSI treatment did not add extra risks to the pregnancy outcomes and neonatal outcomes of patients with teratozoospermic.
