Abstract:Objective To investigate the association between human milk adiponectin and maternal lactational dietary quality in Beijing. Methods We recruited 332 women who delivered in Peking University People's Hospital from December 2018 to July 2021.Participants were aged 20 to 45 years.A total of 270 participants were included in this study after removing missing data.We collected breast milk samples at around 42 days postpartum.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit was used to detect adiponectin concentrations in human milk.Meanwhile, the food frequency questionnaire was used to collect lactational dietary information among participants. We used the diet balance index to evaluate participants' diet quality.Multiple linear regression models were used to examine the association between lactational dietary quality and human milk adiponectin. Results The concentration of human milk adiponectin was 4491.7 (3055.4, 6283.0) pg/mL. Both maternal parity (P< 0.01) and gestational age (P< 0.01) were significantly correlated with human milk adiponectin.Lactational dietary quality among participants was in the low level of diet imbalance.Insufficient were the intakes of cereal, vegetable, fruit, dairy, soybean, fish, shrimp, and diet variety. In contrast, the intakes of meat, poultry, and egg were still in excess.Compared participants with a balanced diet, human milk adiponectin concentrations were increased among the groups of excess dietary intakes after adjusting for confounding variables (P=0.03). Conclusion Human milk adiponectin concentrations were positively associated with moderate or high level of excess intakes of meat, poultry, and egg during lactation in Beijing.
